1. This coming Sunday, December 6, 2009, Advent II, we will gather to conduct the Annual Meeting of the Parish immediately following the only service of that day which will be at 10 a.m. Both the 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. services are canceled. 2. You may visit the Web Site to check out the names of the nominees: www.TheDoubter.org. Click on publications. I suggest this only because the US Post is less than dependable about getting our yellow Doubters to us in a timely manner.
3. Fill out and fill up the Flower envelopes for the Christmastide decorations as soon as you can. They are in the Sunday SOBs and also on the narthex table.
4. The Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church will be at Saint Michael and All Angels this Saturday between 9 and 12. You need a reservation to attend...214.363.5471 or www.saintmichael.org.
5. This Advent we will not have a meal and program following the Wednesday evening Eucharist. I suggest you use the "extra" time you would have spent here following Wednesday night Eucharist "preparing" for God in a quiet, reflective manner. Think of the extra time as a gift.
While on the topic of Advent, thank you for your kind invitations to various seasonal festivities. I appreciate being invited but, as a rule of life, I use the time during Advent to "go deeper" and find seasonal festivities make that almost impossible.
The 12 Days of Christmastide are a different matter! That's when festivities fit the Church Season. Have a holy Advent, Your counter-cultural clergyman,

On Sunday, November 15, Honduras Threads will visit St. Thomas to sell hand-embroidered pillow covers, table runners and cocktail napkins made by women in small rural villages. They are colorful, one-of-a-kind items that make beautiful, unique gifts. (Click on the image to enlarge it).The St. Thomas Daughters of the King have recently commissioned the women to make a banner for their St. Francis chapter. The embroidery on it is now underway, and the banner will be arriving from Honduras in January.
Honduras Threads is a nonprofit organization that supports the work of women’s embroidery cooperatives so that the women have a means to make money without leaving their children or families.
The first co-op was started in Santa Cruz Arriba as a part of a mission trip from Church of the Incarnation in 2002. Honduras Threads continues marketing the work, supplying donated fabrics and starting more co-ops in other locations where the women need work in their own communities. Now there are six co-ops near the capital of Tegucigalpa.
The women learn the appliqué technique and embroidery stitches as well as recordkeeping and business skills. They receive all of the proceeds of the sales, buy their supplies and train their new members.
The co-ops are making a big difference in the lives of households where the average annual income for a family of six was $1,800. Not only are the women feeding their families better, they now have pleasant work in their own communities, own their own business, take pride in what they are making and are wonderful examples for their children.
The beautiful designs in the pillows and table runners are the work of artist Pamela Nelson and designer Barbara Velhum. The Honduran women bring their own artistry to the basic designs with their choices of color, fabrics and embroidery stitches.
Honduras Threads has many volunteer opportunities here in Dallas and welcomes the contribution of fabrics.
