Fire and Smoke and Food
Remember that Sunday is Pentecost Day. If you are in town and at church, the curate reminded us to wear our best red to mark the occasion.

Remember also that the 10 a.m. service will include Holy Smoke. If that is a problem, please come at 8 or 5:30.

Remember to bring your Flaming Dish to the Potluck lunch following the main service.

If you have any unchurched or unhappily churched friends, invite them and go pick them up and bring them along as well.

I am considering renting a boat for all of us to go to the Lambeth Conference for the once a decade meeting of the straight Anglican bishops. Any takers?

Picture: Davis Mac-Iyalla, left, with Katharine Jefferts-Schori, Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, and Andrew Hutchison, Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, at the meeting of all Anglican Primates, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, February, 2007.

Davis Mac-Iyalla is a brave man. In 2005, he founded Changing Attitude-Nigeria to help Christian gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender people overcome virulent hatred and widespread prejudice in his country. His activities have been disowned by his church – the Anglican Church of Nigeria.

Mac-Iyalla has been arrested and beaten. His government is considering a ban on all gay organizations and social gatherings. He has received death threats and gone into hiding.

Through it all, he has held fast to his Christian faith and become an inspiration to faithful gay Africans and others around the world. He is currently on a speaking tour of the United States and will visit The Episcopal Church of Saint Thomas the Apostle in Dallas on Saturday June 30 and Sunday July 1.

All are welcome.
